Tonight's build includes a bunch of Orc Quest fixes as well as some others.The Skeletons during the Orc quest will no longer spawn in places where they cannot be found.Orcs will always have a greeting of some kind rather than having a blank conversation box.While on Orc Island, you can no longer press the Build Mode tabs to see Dwarf buildings in the build list.Likewise, Orc buildings will no longer appear in town build list after returning from Orc IslandOrc health and stamina bars no longer cover up hit point and stamina numbers.Orc Archers no longer have a crafting option since they don't craft anything.You can now use Fitted, Masterwork, and Poor quality items to craft the armor setsUsing the town resource menu to transfer stone from the town to yourself will no longer give you two stone for every one in the town. I've been playing this game for so long I often miss things because when I play, I play it the way I expect it to be played. But that's an illusion that never holds up once people get their hands on it. Alpha 12.8 - Better Camera: Today's update includes some updates to the camera, mostly to handle situations where it is close to the character. Prior to this update, this causes the character and armor to block your view, making combat more difficult than it should be while in tight spaces, such as the Storehouse.In the new system, the character and armor (aside from your shield) are hidden so you only see your shield and your weapon. When you move enough to allow the camera to move away from your character, everything appears again.. In Development: Branching Quests: (click image to see full size)Making some good progress on branching quests. Right now when you get the "Broken Sewers" quest, it's always Ratmen in the sewers. In this branch however, there are no monsters but the pipes are broken So you have to collect them all, bring them to the Stonemason for repair, and then put them all back. I can add other problems related to the sewers now too.You'll also note that it's now a four part quest in this branch, whereas the Ratman version is three steps. When you first get the quest it will always say "Broken Sewers (1/3)" that way you won't know what's wrong with the sewers until you got to investigate. It could be Ratmen, it could be broken pipes, or it could be something else!I like the idea of adding non-combat branches to quests that often require combat so once this system is finished I'll likely be looking at other quests that would benefit from new branches too.. Townspeople Optimization Test Build - Alpha 13.4.1: Updated the test build with some more changes to the code for pathfinding that is a bit more efficient and handles making sure NPCs don't walk away when you are speaking to them. This is actually a much bigger change to the NPCs than yesterday's build so I'm going to spend more time testing it. Any feedback from those of you who have time to check it out would be most appreciated too!This build also includes some other fixes:You can no longer place a building if the road is outside of the town's build area.Fixed some optimization bugs that caused doors and NPC items (like hammers, pitchforks, etc) to disappear even when they were in view.Updated the windmill blades to have some canvas rather than just wood. Iron and Diamond Weapons WIP: We're making some good progress on the new weapons and armor again and I wanted to show some progress! Concept images are on the right.. Alpha 13.9 - Craftable Paintings: Today's update includes the new craftable paintings! There are 10 paintings in total. Five of the paintings will *only* available to Early Access players.Paintings a require a painting frame, a painting canvas, and an alchemy ingredient. Frames are crafted by Carpenters and canvases and the paintings themselves are crafted at the Tailor.This update also includes some fixes:Masterwork armor can always be used to craft decorative armor sets.You should no longer see blue orbs on your radar map. These were used when I was testing the falling leaves system.Falling leaves now correctly disappear when a tree is chopped down.The falling leave system will no longer place falling leaves on trees that aren't fully grown.Fixed a bug with Ram Helm Decorative Armor that caused the icon to fail to display in your inventory.Fixed a bug that caused the Grrrumble Quest to fail to start.The Stonemasons will no longer lose Shopkeeper status after loading a save.Optimized the system that creates the crafting list when you speak to a shopkeeper.Removed the glare from the 3D crafting view.I'm also working on the new Story Quests and the new combat system. Hoping to have the story quests complete this week.. Alpha 13.2 - Townspeople Events and Fixes: Tonight's update includes the townspeople events system. Your dwarves will occasionally often based on their traits. Happy dwarves often have a "good day" and sometimes might share a joke with another dwarf. Likewise, grumpy drawves can bring down those around them. If a dwarf has a negative event, such as a bad day, overeating, or being insulted, the "about" button in their conversation UI will say "Cheer Up" instead. Clicking this removes the mood debuff and replaces it with a small buff. You also get a small amount of XP from doing this as well.It's a not a super critical system, more to add some flavor and some fun. So it is not imperative to cheer up a dwarf who gets a mood debuff from an event.This build also includes some bug fixes:You will no longer gain XP if you are at max skill points.The old system only looked at spent skill points.NPCs will no longer get stuck on the steep hill by mines.The "press G to open the town storage" message will no longer get stuck after leaving the drop off area. I also added in a safeguard that will remove it when you leave the Storehouse if it does get stuck visible again.Items placed in a chest will now automatically stack.Doors should no longer sometimes get stuck open when leaving a building.The "press G for to open the town storage" message will now update if you changed the Interact key to another key.I made some big updates to the save system that should remove the stutter when getting a new quest or finishing a quest.Work is continuing on the new weapons and armor as well as more new environment art for the willow trees, the pink trees by the ruins, and a pine tree. Once those are all done, I'll update the map. Really looking forward to doing that!Here are some shots showing some of the work in progress and the final results.At first, we were having trouble getting the trees to look right when the sun was behind them. They'd have this odd glow to them that just didn't look natural. The effect was worse the farther away the tree was. So far away trees would glow super bright.After some tweaking, we got them looking MUCH better. These shots are in the actual game world with the day/night lighting. Note, there is only one tree type and color in this shot as I was just testing.And finally, all of the currently completed trees on the test map. There are three regular trees as well as a smaller birch style tree. The upcoming pine tree will help break up the canopy a bit along with the cherry blossoms and weeping willows. You can also see the new flowers, bushes, and rocks in this shot. The leaves on these trees all move with the wind too, and once I add them to the map, I'll add falling leaf particles to them to really complete the effect.It's amazing how the new trees really change the look and style of the game. I'm super happy with them and hope you like them too!. Alpha 12.4 - Bug Fixes and Improvements: Tonight's build includes a bunch of bug fixes and some improvements.Added the townsperson's current goal to the Townspeople pop-up in the Town Management UI.You can only place one Teleport Platform. The system doesn't check beyond the first one so I added the limit to avoid anyone crafting two since the second wouldn't be needed.Added controller support for the dungeon intro text and the enter mine choice UI.Fixed a bug with stamina potions that made newly crafted potions fail to stack with previously crafted stamina potions.Stamina potions now recover much more stamina.Metalworkers will no longer stay at their home and will always return to their shop.Fixed a bug that kept the Trainer's Respec button to fail.The town build mode instruction UI will no longer appear when crafting items.The mini-mushrooms in the Shroomin' quest will now correctly run around the town rather than staying in place.Fixed a part of the sewer that was missing a couple of columns.Fixed a bug that caused the mage teleporters to sometimes fail.The fitted armor quest will now correctly improve your armor and increase your stamina.Increased the stamina benefit from fitted armor.. Aside from the new art I also wanted to experiment with more open spaces. Right now the forest is very dense. I like the idea of having some open space with maybe a couple of clusters of density. Probably spent more time on this than I should have, but I'm happy with the result. Still experimenting with lighting and some of the textures. I'm going to use this as a template as the visual quality bar when I add all of the new art to the world map.So now it's back to more content and features. Really don't like going a week without a game update. Just feels weird.
